Teaching and Curriculum
At OCC Early Learning Center, we understand that learning is a highly individualized process. Our curriculum supports students learning through hands-on activities, movement and music, engaging conversations, and child-directed explorations. Teachers observe students to ensure they meet milestones and inform curriculum development based on individual student development and interests. Children will have the opportunity to learn through many experiences, including:
Large Group Activities
Small Group Activities
Creative/Process Art Activities
Outdoor/Large Motor Activities
Block Play
Math & Manipulatives
Writing/Language Arts
Dramatic Play
Sensory/Science
Music & Movement
Additionally, students of every age learn songs about Jesus and hear wonderful Bible stories. We pray together before meals and participate in Chapel weekly. Our goal is for our students to move on knowing God’s love.
Infants- Our teachers listen and communicate with parents to ensure that the needs of both the child and parent(s) are met. We are attentive to your baby as critical milestones are reached, such as learning to roll over, crawl, walk, smile, babble, and wave hello! OCC Early Learning Center teachers develop a curriculum to ensure your child learns through educational concepts, social interactions, play, and new experiences. Through observation and documentation, teachers ensure all children meet developmentally appropriate milestones and introduce new activities to support development.
Toddlers- Teachers provide toddlers with opportunities to learn and explore. Classrooms are organized into learning centers to engage children in learning through play while building independence. Our teachers communicate with parents to ensure we are working together on important milestones such as potty training, language development, and meeting your child's daily needs. OCC Early Learning Center teachers develop a curriculum to guide your child's natural curiosity into meaningful learning experiences. Teachers observe and document milestones and children's interests to help inform the curriculum.
Preschool/Pre-K- In preschool and pre-k, children are given more freedom to explore based on their interests as they are engaged in the classroom learning centers. Learning centers allow your child to build independence and confidence, learn to share and play with others, and acquire the skills needed for kindergarten. Learning emerges through frequent exposure to concepts, interactions, purposeful play, and new experiences. Teachers build engaging curricula based on student interest while ensuring each child meets developmentally appropriate skills.
